Solvent Red 27(CAS#1320-06-5) Introduction
Oil Red O is an organic dye with the chemical name of 2-naphthylamine 4-azophenylbenzene iodide. It is a powder that resembles an orange-red color.
Oil red O is insoluble in water, but has good solubility in organic solvents.
The preparation of oil red O can be obtained by the coupling reaction of p-nitrobenzene and naphthylamine. Nitrobenzene and naphthalamine are dissolved in dilute alkali, heated to the reaction temperature, and then ammonium hyposulfite solution is slowly added dropwise to generate azo compounds. This azo compound reacts with sodium iodate to produce Oil Red O.
Pay attention to safety when using Oil Red O. It is a toxic substance and should be avoided from direct contact with the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Wear protective gloves, goggles, and masks during operation. Oil Red O should be kept away from fire, high temperatures, and oxidizing agents, and stored properly to avoid mixing with other chemicals. In case of accidental contact or ingestion, seek medical attention immediately.
