N-epsilon-Carbobenzyloxy-L-lysine (CAS# 1155-64-2)
N(ε)-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-lysine is an organic compound with the following properties:
Appearance: White crystalline powder or crystalline.
Solubility: Difficult to dissolve in water, soluble in acidic and alkaline solutions and organic solvents such as ethanol and ethers.
Chemical properties: Its carboxylic acid group can be condensed with amine groups to form peptide bonds.
The main use of N(ε)-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-lysine is as a temporary protective group in biochemical research. It protects the amino group on the lysine to prevent it from participating in non-specific reactions. When synthesizing peptides or proteins, N(ε)-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-lysine can be used for protection and then removed if needed.
The preparation of N(ε)-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-lysine is usually obtained by reacting L-lysine with ethyl N-benzyl-2-chloroacetate.
It can be irritating to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract and should be treated with direct contact. Wear protective glasses, gloves and masks when in use. It should be kept in a dry, cool place, away from fire and oxidants.
