Ethyl 3-(4-(methylamino)-3-nitro-N-(pyridin-2-yl)benzoylamido)propionate, also known as MTT (Meta-Toluidine ortho-Toluenesulphonic acid triazine ester), is a chemical substance. It has the following properties:

The main uses of MTT are as follows:

 

Biological research: MTT is widely used to determine cell proliferation and cell viability. It converts MTT into a blue product that dissolves in cells by reducing it, which can be used to determine cell viability.

 

In general, the preparation method of MTT can be carried out by the following steps:

 

Methylaniline is reacted with 2-nitrobenzoyl chloride to obtain 3-(4-methylaminobenzoyl)benzoyl chloride.

The product obtained in step 1 is reacted with 2-pyridone to generate 3-(4-methylaminobenzoylamido)benzoyl chloride.

The product obtained in step 2 is reacted with ethyl 3-aminopropionate to generate ethyl 3-(4-methylaminobenzoylamido)propionate.

The final product, MTT, is purified by crystallization or other methods.
