Introduction
Diallyl trisulfide (DAS for short) is an organosulfur compound.
Properties: DAS is a yellow to brown oily liquid with a peculiar sulfur odor. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols and ethers.
Uses: DAS is mainly used as a vulcanization crosslinker for rubber. It can promote the cross-linking reaction between rubber molecules, increasing the strength and heat resistance of rubber materials. DAS can also be used as a catalyst, preservative, and biocide.
Method: The preparation of DAS can be carried out by the reaction of dipropylene, sulfur and benzoyl peroxide. Dipropylene is reacted with benzoyl peroxide to form 2,3-propylene oxide. Then, it reacts with sulfur to form DAS.
Safety information: DAS is a hazardous substance, and precautions should be taken. Exposure to DAS may cause eye and skin irritation, and direct contact should be avoided. Appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and protective eyewear, should be worn when using DAS. Make sure to operate in a well-ventilated area. In case of accidental exposure to or accidental ingestion of DAS, seek medical attention immediately.
