preparation tetrahydrofuran (80 mL) solution of 1- boc-alanine (5g, 26.4 mmol) was added, fine powder KOH (10.4g, 187

mmol) was added dropwise for more than 15 minutes. Stir for another 30 minutes and add water (50 mL). After stirring at room temperature for 5 hours, 20% ammonium hydroxide aqueous solution (20 mL) was added. Dilute the reaction with ether (100
mL), separate the water layer, and extract the organic layer with saturated NaHCO3 aqueous solution (2 × 40 mL). The mixed water layer was acidified with 1M
KHSO4 to pH 1 and extracted with ethyl acetate (2×200
mL). The organic layers are combined, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated. The resulting product was identified as BOC-N-methyl-L-alanine. Butter, yield 4.3g, 80%.
