Introduction

5-methyl -1, 3-isoxazole-4-carboxylic acid (abbreviated as MTCA) is an organic compound. Its chemical structure contains an isoxazole ring and a carboxylic acid group.

Regarding the properties of MTCA, it is a colorless crystalline solid, soluble in water and some organic solvents. Stable at room temperature, but may decompose when heated. Its molecular formula is C6H7NO3 and its relative molecular mass is 141.13g/mol.

MTCA is commonly used in the synthesis of dyes and drugs. It can be used as an intermediate for dyes, for the synthesis of chemicals and pigments. In addition, MTCA also has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal activities, so it can be used to prepare anti-infective drugs.

The method of preparing MTCA is generally obtained by reacting isoxazole aldehyde with formic acid. First, the reactants isoxazole aldehyde and formic acid are mixed in a molar ratio of 1:1, and then an appropriate amount of catalyst is added to react, and finally the MTCA product is obtained.

Regarding safety information, MTCA has low toxicity, but it still requires attention to use and handling. During the operation, care should be taken to avoid MTCA from touching the skin and eyes, and to avoid inhaling aerosols. Use should wear appropriate protective gloves and glasses, maintain a good ventilation environment. When disposing of waste, it should be properly disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
