Introduction
4-Chloro-3-fluorobenzoic acid.
Properties: It can be dissolved in many organic solvents such as ethanol, ether and chloroform at room temperature.
Uses: It can also be used in the preparation of dyes and coatings.
Method:
The preparation method of 4-chloro-3-fluorobenzoic acid is usually obtained by reacting benzoic acid with carbon tetrachloride and hydrogen fluoride. First, benzoic acid is reacted with carbon tetrachloride in the presence of aluminum tetrachloride to form benzoyl chloride. Benzoyl chloride is then reacted with hydrogen fluoride in an organic solvent to produce 4-chloro-3-fluorobenzoic acid.
Safety Information:
4-Chloro-3-fluorobenzoic acid is relatively stable at room temperature, but contact with strong oxidants and high temperatures should be avoided. Appropriate protective equipment, such as gloves and goggles, should be worn when handling the compound to prevent contact with the skin and eyes. Good ventilation conditions should be provided during operation.
