Introduction
O-chlorotoluene is an organic compound. It is a colorless liquid with a special aroma and is soluble in most organic solvents.
The main use of o-chlorotoluene is as a solvent and reaction intermediate. It can be used in alkylation, chlorination and halogenation reactions in organic synthesis. O-chlorotoluene is also used in the production of printing inks, pigments, plastics, rubber, and dyes.
There are three main methods for the preparation of o-chlorotoluene:
1. O-chlorotoluene can be prepared by the reaction of chlorosulfonic acid and toluene.
2. It can also be obtained by the reaction of chloroformic acid and toluene.
3. In addition, o-chlorotoluene can also be obtained by the reaction of o-dichlorobenzene and methanol in the presence of ammonia.
1. O-chlorotoluene is irritating and toxic, skin contact and inhalation should be avoided. Protective gloves, goggles and respiratory protective equipment should be worn during operation.
2. Avoid contact with strong oxidants and strong acids to avoid dangerous reactions.
3. It should be stored in a well-ventilated place and away from open flames and high temperatures.
4. Waste should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations and should not be dumped in the natural environment.
